Aspira Now Provides The Coursework Needed for Individuals Interested In the The Grandparenting Path to LPCC Licensure With The CA BBS
Saturday, February 19th, 2011For licensed professionals, who every renewal period seek after MFT continuing education, there is a new path available in California. The CA BBS (Board of Behavioral Sciences) has implemented a new license, the LPCC (licensed professional clinical counselor). This new license can be obtained not only from existing licensed professionals in California, but from those licensed in other states as well. The CA BBS has created a temporary path for those seeking this new license. This path is called the “grandparenting” path. For the licensed professional from outside of California, their requirements will not be the same as those already licensed in California. For those that are non-BBS licensed professionals additional courses are required.
All of the additional coursework that is required by the CA BBS for this new license is now offered at Aspira Continuing Education at http://www.aspirace.com. In addition to these extra courses, the applicant must have met the core content areas in their masters or doctorate program. All of the extra courses can be taken from an online provider approved by the CA BBS. The courses and their corresponding number of required hours are as follows:
* 15 contact hours of training in alcoholism and other chemical substance abuse dependency;
* 10 contact hours of training in human sexuality;
* 15 contact hours of training in spousal or partner abuse assessment, detection, and intervention;
* 7 contact hours of training in child abuse assessment and reporting;
* 18 contact hours of training in California law and professional ethics;
* 10 contact hours of training in aging and long-term care; and,
* 15 contact hours of instruction in crisis or trauma counseling.
Aspira has made some new additions to their course listing over the last few months. Aspira CE has a course for each requirement above, plus many more. “Now, those seeking licensure with the CA BBS as an LPCC can meet all of their extra coursework in one place”, said Nicole Hiltibran, MA, LMFT, CEO of Aspira Continuing Education. “This really simplifies the process during this window of opportunity of the grandparenting path provided by the CA BBS.”
Outside of this course list, Aspira offers many course options for those licensed throughout the United States seeking to renew their license as a LMFT, Social Worker or Professional Counselor. Aspira appears to be the “one-stop-shop” for online continuing education for mental health professionals and licensed social workers in most states, not just California.
