Study For GMAT Test With Online College!
Saturday, November 20th, 2010One of the largest segments of the GMAT is called the Quantitative section. It’s probably the one section of this qualifying exam that causes MBA students the most concern. The section adds up to 40% of their GMAT grade, and tests the student’s math capabilities. Their concern is many haven’t had to do any serious number crunching in years. Their jobs just didn’t require it.
While one doesn’t need a PhD in math to be a success in the business world, a person without the basic comprehension of math is also not going to get far at all. The Quantitative segment of the GMAT is geared accordingly. That should be remembered when one applies to an online school for a GMAT preparatory course load.
This doesn’t mean the Quantitative segment is a cake walk. Because of this, when searching for online GMAT prep courses, one should look for course loads that provide programs and drills that will help students remember the economics, accounting and statistics courses they haven’t used since their sophomore year. Here are some other things to do when scouting out the right class:
Drill In Data Sufficiency – As it happens, this is considered a portion of the Quantitative test, too. It revolves around figuring out whether the problem presented has enough information to be solved rather than figuring out the actual solution. These questions usually tend to also be multiple choice. That said, ask to see if the course provides a large quantity of drills and problems in this area.
Review Your Basic Math Again – If there are some aspects of math that you haven’t touched since your first two years of college, then there will undoubtedly be one important point or two that you have either forgotten or are extremely rusty in. As such, ask your college career counselor what their courses will do to rectify this deficiency. The more drills and coaching they offer, the better.
Pick Up A Puzzle Book or Two – This is actually not only a very effective way to review one’s math knowledge, but can be a bit of fun. Whether it’s Sudoku or logic puzzles, doing them will reinforce what you are trying to remember, and apparently have a number of uncanny parallels to the questions that the test taker will face.
Tailor To Your Needs – Even inside the math world, there are those who are expert in one sort of number crunching and those who are better in others. Make sure your online college will help you realize what your personal strengths and weaknesses are, and then emphasize study on the weaknesses.
One last important tip, and that is the GMAT isn’t designed to be loaded with trick questions. It is a wise choice to prepare for it with online college. While the business world does need its share of people with their business administration degree, who can navigate around economic progressions or an accounting ledger with extreme ease, it also needs people who only need the basics. Get the fundamentals down and you will have no issues with the Quantitative section of the GMAT. If you are interested in getting more information about online MBA, check the internet.
